Lottchen

The Swiss vibraphone player Sonja Huber and the Belgian vocalist Eva Buchmann met at the Jazz Institute Berlin in 2007. Influenced by an author of children books, they founded their duo “Lottchen”. Since then, they never stopped exploring the world of duo playing…

Lottchen plays whatever fits their unconventional combination of vibes and vocals: deformed popsongs, jazzstandards, original compositions… Genres happily collide in Lottchen’s repertoire, combining text and instrumental singing in a sensitive way. The acoustic variety in the vocals is also extensively found in the vibraphone’s accompaniment through all kinds of contrasting soundscapes and different “prepared mallets”.

Over the years Lottchen established an almost magical interplay, unique and intense. This intense rapport also convinced the jury of the international jazz competition in France: Lottchen won the Crest Jazz Vocal Concours 2011. The Belgian/Swiss duo appeared at some renowned festivals including Jazz à Grignan, La nuits de tous les Jazz, Crest Jazz Vocal Festival, etc.

After the release of their single-handed debut album “Lazy Afternoon” in 2009, Lottchen had the chance to play concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France. Their upcoming album will be the result of an enchanting encounter at the RecPublica Studios in Poland, recorded in spring of 2012.

Eva Buchmann

Eva Buchmann studied jazz vocals at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, spent a year abroad at the Jazz Institute of Berlin University of Arts and obtained her master’s degree in 2008.

In order to expand her acquired skills, she attended an intensive course at the Complete Vocal Institute in Copenhagen in 2010. That same year she won the international jazz competition for singing musicians “Voicingers” in Poland.

To pursue a life of jazz singing, Eva moved to the music metropole Cologne. From there she works as a freelance jazz vocalist and teaches jazz singing at different music schools including the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen.

Sonja Huber

The vibraphone player Sonja Huber studied at the Basel College of Jazz Music from 2003 to 2008. In September 2008, she obtained her master’s degree in music and jazz education. During her studies, Sonja Huber was tutored by Urs Wiesner in Basel and by David Friedman at the Jazz Institute of Berlin, University of Arts.

Sonja Huber discovered her passion for composition and arrangement early during her studies. With Lottchen and the Sonja Huber Quartet, which released the first album 2012 featured by „Jazz thing next Generation“, she can bring in and develop this interest. Apart from her dedication for her own projects, Sonja Huber has worked as a freelance musician in classical orchestras, pop music productions and as an instrumental teacher at various schools in Switzerland.

“A very diverse and coherent repertory […] Beautiful interpretations that show genuine sensibility and refinement. What talent! Despite the lousy weather, the duo Lottchen truly succeeded in delighting the audience.”
Jazz-Rhône-Alpes, Philippe Chassang, 06.08.2011

“The vibraphone and the vocals of Sonja Huber and Eva Buchmann achieve a unique symbiosis of perfectly attuned sounds […] Let us hope that the two young musicians will celebrate great successes and that they will captivate a wide audience with their live performances.”
St. Galler Tagblatt, Jürg Wickart, 20.03.2008
