Compositions by Ortiz, Bach, Vivaldi, Grieg, Satie, Ellington and Piazzolla.

Anna Carewe and Oli Bott play music without borders: serious music, entertaining music, old music, new music, compositions and improvisations. They make the boundaries between genres and epochs disappear and seduce the audience to enjoy new sounds and to re-discover familiar sounds.

The duo played at festivals such as Beethovenfest Bonn and Musikfest Stuttgart and in concert halls such as Philharmonie Berlin and Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

At the age of 16, English cellist Anna Carewe first gained nationwide attention in her homeland when she won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. In the same year she played Elgar’s Cello Concerto at the London Royal Festival Hall, made her first recordings for the Hessischer Rundfunk and began her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Florence Hooton and David Strange. After graduating with honors at the age of 20, Anna went to Berlin to continue her studies with Wolfgang Boettcher at the Hochschule der Künste and then as a scholarship holder of the orchestra academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. As a solo cellist of the Ensemble Oriol (now Kammerakademie Potsdam) Anna became an integral part of the Berlin music scene. In 2007 she left the ensemble to focus more on her own projects.

Anna Carewe’s trademark is her remarkable versatility. She takes over the artistic direction of her own projects and plays music from baroque to modern, jazz and improvisation. Likewise, she is a continuo-cellist on historical instruments in several European baroque formations. With groups such as the Manon Quartet Berlin, the Berlin Oboe Quartet, the musical and cabaret trio Panama Hat Trick or in a duo with the pianist Philip Mayers, Anna was a guest at international festivals such as Tanglewood, Lucerne, Bath, Musica Nova Brisbane or the Innsbrucker Festival für Alte Musik. She has recorded for the BBC and ABC (Australia) as well as for radio stations throughout Germany and has produced several CD productions as a chamber musician under her own name. The Sheridan Ensemble, which Anna founded in 2007, presents innovative concert programs that combine music from a wide range of eras and genres on the concert stage.

Oli Bott studied vibraphone and composition at Boston’s Berklee College of Music with teachers like Gary Burton and Bob Brookmeyer and graduated summa cum laude. He lives as a freelance musician in Berlin. He received several scholarships from the Berlin Senate and composition commissions for his jazz orchestra. As a winner in international competitions such as NDR Music Prize for jazz conductors, the 1st prize at the Leipzig Improvisation Competition, Europe Jazz Contest and Wayne Shorter Award, USA, he played numerous concerts at home and abroad. Oli Bott performed at the following festivals: WOMAD Festival (UK), Calcutta Jazz Festival (India), European Festival Izmir (Turkey), Schwetzinger SWR Festival, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, WDR Jazz Festival Cologne, Händel Festival Halle, Music Festival Stuttgart, Palatia Jazz Festival, Jazz Across the Border Festival Berlin, Hamm International Jazz Festival, Burghausen Jazz Festival, Würzburg Jazz Festival, Music’n’Migration Berlin. Among his most important projects is the work with Anna Carewe.

Since 2016 he has been teaching Vibraphone at the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus and gives improvisation workshops for the education program of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Landesmusikakademie Berlin.

www.annacarewe.com

www.olibott.com

Anna Carewe & Oli Bott – Timescapes

Choose your store!

Cello meets Vibraphone – Classic meets Jazz With cello and vibraphone on a journey through time from early music to new music with excursions to jazz and improvisations.
