Yeah, I do.\u201c<\/em> Und dennoch hat sie trotz oder ob diesem Bekenntnis ihre ganz eigene, unverwechselbare Stimme gefunden, ohne in Ehrfurcht vor Lady Day zu erstarren oder deren Kunst zu fliehen. Denn Bewunderung und Liebe zur Kunst einer gro\u00dfen Vorg\u00e4ngerin, bedeutet nicht notwendig Selbstaufgabe und unreflektiertes Fan-Sein, sondern scheint im Gegenteil notwendige Voraussetzung im selbstbewussten Zu-Sich-Selbstkommen einer jeden K\u00fcnstlerin und eines jeden K\u00fcnstlers zu sein.<\/p>\n<p>Diesen Eindruck bekommt man jedenfalls beim intensiven H\u00f6ren der Abbey Lincoln-Interpretationen der Berliner S\u00e4ngerin <strong>Esther Kaiser<\/strong> auf ihrem neuen Album <strong>\u201cLearning how to listen \u2013 the song and music of Abbey Lincoln\u201c<\/strong>. So gleichen <strong>Esther Kaisers<\/strong> bewundernde S\u00e4tze \u00fcber Abbey Lincoln nicht zuf\u00e4llig denen Lincolns \u00fcber ihr Vorbild Billie Holiday: \u201eAbbey ist meine \u201eMeisterin\u201c in Wort und Ton, aber auch \u201eweise Priesterin des Lebens\u201c, Philosophin, vielfache Quelle von musikalischer und textdichterischer Inspiration.\u201c Und Esther Kaiser f\u00fcgt hinzu: \u201eAbbeys Liebe zum Theater, ihre \u00e4u\u00dferst wache gesellschaftspolitische Haltung und nicht zuletzt ihre Lebensbr\u00fcche auch in k\u00fcnstlerischer Hinsicht lassen ihre Vita ungew\u00f6hnlich erscheinen im Vergleich zu anderen Jazzgr\u00f6\u00dfen&#8230;. Auch ihre in ihrer Musik ausgedr\u00fcckte Suche nach Sinn und Erkennen sind etwas, was uns verbindet.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Insofern liegt die Geburtsstunde f\u00fcr Esther Kaisers neues Album, das ganz und gar angef\u00fcllt ist mit Songs von Abbey Lincoln, auch nicht in der Gegenwart, sondern etwas l\u00e4nger zur\u00fcck: \u201eBereits 2005 auf der CD \u201eThe moment we met\u201c (Minor Music 2006) war der Song \u201eThrow it away\u201c der erste und einer der wichtigsten Tracks\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Esther Kaiser ihre Vision und f\u00e4hrt fort: \u201eDie wunderbaren Abbey-Lincoln-Songs sollen weiterhin live zu h\u00f6ren sein und nicht nur konserviert sein auf CDs.<br \/>\nDie vielfach begeisterte Reaktionen vieler Menschen im Publikum auf die Songs, die sie bislang teilweise nicht kannten, best\u00e4tigten mich und meine Band in dem Vorhaben\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Und frisch klingen ihre Songs wie \u201eLove has gone away\u201c oder \u201eA turtle\u00b4s dream\u201c, weil in ihnen noch so viel un-offenbarte Gegenwart steckt, die nur ihre w\u00fcrdigen Nachfolger wie Esther Kaiser, die sich tief in Lincolns Werk versenkt haben und gleichzeitig die notwendige Distanz dazu mitbringen, ans Tageslicht bringen k\u00f6nnen. Insofern hat Abbey Lincoln recht behalten, als sie einst prophezeite: <em>\u201cI think that&#8217;s what really a substantial work is, it&#8217;s forever.
