Cornelius Claudio Kreusch – Scoop

Category:

Description

The outrageously talented Cornelius Claudio Kreusch from Munich sees stylistic boundaries as nothing more than restrictive shackles on his exuberant creativity. So the pianist moved to New York, the Mecca of all artistic free spirits, and gathered the band BlackMudSound around him—a loose “foyer des arts” that, at the time of the recording of “Scoop,” was home to a group of improvisation-loving musicians, including Greg Osby and Bobby Watson on alto sax, Terri Lyne Carrington on drums, Anthony Cox, Zaf Zapha, and James Genus on bass, as well as the mesmerizing voices of Salif Keita, Elisabeth Kontomanou, and Thomas Grimes. “Scoop” has a crisp groove and delicate sensitivity, sometimes nervous and excited, sometimes elegantly styled. The themes are consistently pop-like and catchy, the rhythms insistent and gripping. Kreusch thus builds bridges between cool jazz and black poetry, between urban funk and Afro-pop. This electrifying mix of cultures gains power and space through impeccable sound engineering that is as powerful as it is airy.
