Edgar Knecht – Colours of Europe

Description

The keyboard wizard and his trio present their new European project.

Edgar Knecht (Germany) – piano, piano modulator, synthesizer, composition
Tobias Schulte (Germany) – drums, percussion
Till Spohr (Germany) – bass

COLOURS OF EUROPE is a declaration of love for Europe’s cultural diversity and a passionate
plea for international understanding and a united Europe.

Knecht transforms beautiful folk songs from France, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Germany into melodically moving ballads and rhythmically stirring grooves in his unique style.

Edgar Knecht began his project 19 years ago. What has happened since then reads almost like a fairy tale: with his unmistakable blend of classical, jazz, and world music, Knecht celebrated his international breakthrough at the legendary jazz festival in Havana and toured Europe, the US, and Asia.

His trilogy of German folk songs was hailed by critics as “the most aesthetically beautiful and musically captivating jazz albums of recent years,” made it into the German jazz charts and various lists of the “best albums of the year.” The NDR sums it up: “A unique symbiosis of classical music, jazz, and German folk songs that is unparalleled.”

Jazzthetik agrees: “His synthesis of German folk songs and a rather traditionally sparkling interpretation is quite unmatched. No wonder the trio is one of the crowd favorites in Germany.”
COLOURS OF EUROPE is also the first project with the new EKT line-up: alongside Edgar Knecht on the keys and exceptional drummer Tobias Schulte, bass virtuoso Till Spohr is a member of the acclaimed trio for the first time.

“The world has probably never heard music like this before” – Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

“It’s Knecht’s interpretive mastery, eloquent musicianship, and sheer creativity that makes this album sing … Sometimes it’s so good, it makes you cry” – Jazzwise London

“Congenial working style, outstanding feeling, and sensational craftsmanship: top class international jazz music” – Gießener Anzeiger

“Edgar Knecht has long since become one of Germany’s best jazz pianists, enchanting his audience with his virtuoso skills.” – Kölnische Rundschau
