Description

Timofey Sattarov – accordion

Mathematically speaking, the hyperbola is a curve consisting of two mutually symmetrical branches extending to infinity. For Timofey Sattarov, it is the perfect description of the acoustic sound curve that is created when playing the accordion. After years of research on the instrument, the musician presents his solo album Hyperbola. The accordion sounds like a band with several members. The compositions combine groovy rhythm patterns with percussive effects and multifaceted melodies. Elements from jazz, pop, lounge, minimal and world music are mixed as a matter of course.

Characterised by inventive curiosity, the music goes in touch with the present time. There are 7 pieces on the album whose names speak for themselves. Perpetuum Mobile, for example, internalises the unstoppable mechanism of our civilisation. The playful piece Hold the Line is reminiscent of the well-known situation in the waiting loop during a telephone call.  The title Mini refers to the stylistic means of minimal music that come into play in this piece.  The album reaches a climax in Northern Lights. The atmospheric melting voices of the northern lights create a feeling of infinite expanse and melancholy. The track The Beast owes its name to the incredibly difficult technical complexity.  The piece Sci-Fi takes us on an exciting cosmic journey whose next twist is never predictable.  The name Joke refers to the joking character of the piece.

Timofey Sattarov (accordionist, composer) was born in 1984 in the Siberian city of Tyumen in Russia. He graduated with a degree in accordion from the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin in 2009 and has worked with various orchestras, theatres and opera houses, including the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Semperoper Dresden, the Neuköllner Oper, the Berliner Ensemble, the Munich State Opera, the Baletto Civile Italien Parma, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra

In 2011, together with Andrey Lakisov and Bernd Gesell, he founded the trio Laccasax, which is dedicated to the genre of chamber world music and for which he arranges and composes numerous pieces himself. Together, the band has released two albums Passepartout and In Music At Home on the label of GLM Music.

With the new solo album Hyperbola Timofey Sattarov develops his unique unmistakable style with many innovations in playing technique, which show the accordion sound from a new perspective.
