Philipp Schiepek – Meadows and Mirrors

FM412 CD, Vinyl, Download and Streaming

Release 22.11.2024

Philipp Schiepek – Nylon String Guitar
Henning Sieverts – Bass
Bastian Jütte – Drums

“Philipp Schiepek achieves great tension with comparatively few notes. It’s about
beauty of sound and sensuality of sound.” Matthias Wegner, Deutschlandfunk Kultur

No cell phone network, telephone cables across the countryside, a road through the
forest where two vehicles can hardly meet. The cup of black coffee sits on the table in
front of the yellow cottage, while your gaze wanders into the distance, where the sky
is reflected in the green of the meadows.
Tranquillity, reflection and the rapid movement of the clouds influenced the
Dinkelsbühl guitarist Philipp Schiepek for his program “Meadows and Mirrors”, which
will be released on GLM-Music on 22 November 2024. In a space-consuming
composition process, solo and trio pieces were created, which are interpreted on the
classical nylon-string guitar.
In collaboration with the two established artists Henning Sieverts and Bastian Jütte,
with whom Philipp Schiepek has a long friendship, an exciting program full of joyful
playing is created.
With “Meadows and Mirrors”, Philipp Schiepek succeeds in continuing to weave the
tapestry of ideas from the album “Versuch zu Träumen”, which was released in spring
on Wooden Waggon Records.
With his ensembles, guitarist Philipp Schiepek has performed at the Berlin Jazz
Festival, the Leipzig Jazz Days, the Bach Festival in Köthen, the Berlin Philharmonie,
the Prinzregententheater in Munich, Sunset Paris and the Europe Sound Festival in
Ankara, among others. Philipp Schiepek’s concerts are broadcast on Deutschlandfunk,
Bayerischer Rundfunk, RBB, WDR, HR and NDR. A 60-minute live concert, which was
recorded as part of the Jazzfest Berlin, was recently streamed on ARTE CONCERT.

Download & Stream

A smoky bar, rainy April weather or a scene from a French black and white film – on their new album “Am Ende der Nacht”, the trio led by pianist Kilian Kemmer tells of people, faded memories and marginal notes of the everyday in eleven musical miniatures. With Thomas Stabenow on bass and Julian Fau on drums, the trio explores catchy themes and then embarks on a journey into the poetic unknown. On the two compositions “Durch die Nacht” and “Fabi 43”, long-time companion Matthieu Bordenave joins the trio on saxophone.

New CD: Marie and Jean-Claude Séférian – Invitation au Voyage

FM 390 CD, Download & Stream

Streaming:     https://glmmusic.de/InvitationauVoyage

“Invitation au voyage” – the new album by singing duo Marie and Jean-Claude Séférian invites you to travel to places of longing and satisfy your wanderlust. Whether in reality or in the imagination, father and daughter take us on a musical journey with their reinterpretation of chansons and songs from different corners of the world.

The name “Séférian” means nothing other than “the travelers” and, significantly, this program was created during the Corona period. In order to escape their own four walls, they let themselves be carried by the music with their singing and rediscovered countries, cities and cultures for themselves.

“Music is emotion, imagination and movement. That’s why we dedicate part of our program to the fragile world situation and sing about people’s longing for peace and freedom,” explains jazz singer Marie Séférian, whose voice, delicate, incredibly slender and at the same time full of expressiveness, runs through the pieces like brightly shining lines. Her father Jean-Claude Séférian, who is considered one of the few authentic interpreters of French chanson in Germany, blends their voices in a congenial way with his warm and powerful timbre, always carried by the soundscape that Christiane Séférian spreads out for them on the piano.

After the successful program “Un Homme et une Femme”, which Marie and Jean-Claude Séférian presented from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg to the Deutsches Theater in Munich, their new program “Invitation au voyage” alternates songs by Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel and other greats of chanson with jazz standards and original compositions. In addition to French chanson classics such as “Paroles Paroles” and chart hits such as “Voyage voyage”, they perform the Latin hit “Besame mucho” in Spanish, the famous Duke Ellington song “Take the A-Train” in English and their own composition “Auf Wiedersehen” in German – their universal language always remains the language of music.

Marie & Jean Claude Séférian (vocals), Christiane Rieger Séférian (piano), Julia Czerniawska (violin), Tim Kleinsorge (bass), Javier Reyes (drums & percussion)
