Description
“The wind carries many stories. Of the vast landscapes of South America. Of the pressing heat of West Africa. Of the intense smells of Cairo. Of the humanity of the Balkans. We want to tell you these stories. Whispering, speaking, shouting, dancing or in silence. In respectful connection with the music that has given us inspiration, motivation and direction for years. The klezmer!”
The new program is dedicated to the trio’s concert tours across the globe in recent years. Like the wind, the Moritz Weiß Klezmer Trio combines this wealth of impressions with its own stylistic approaches between klezmer, jazz and pop and presents an impressive overall view with 13 new pieces of music on the new album. However, as there are wonderful musicians not only in the big wide world, but also in the trio’s home country, the three men from Styria have also brought one of the best onto the new album as a special guest: Simon Reithofer on gypsy guitar, whose soulful expression further emphasizes the instrumental lyricism of the album.
Sparks fly when this lively trio from Styria performs. With clarinet, guitar and double bass, they create sonic spaces that invite you to marvel, encourage you to dance with verve or touch your soul with sensuality. The virtuoso trio has been touring the world for almost ten years. Once rooted in the diverse world of klezmer music, today the focus is primarily on their own compositions. Always carrying the fascinating musical language of the Yiddish wedding musicians as a stylistic element in their hand luggage, it is the three personalities of the trio, with their individual approaches, that make the music of the young trio a true work of fire. The Hildesheim daily newspaper also wrote about this: “Moritz Weiß as a virtuoso master who creates dynamic and rhythmic tensions in all colors, guitarist Niki Waltersdorfer, whose instrument also catches fire as a percussionist, and bassist Maximilian Kreuzer, who completes the trio as a support and agile pizzicato player.”
These musical fireworks not only earned the Moritz Weiß Klezmer Trio the Styrian State Culture Prize in 2020, but also took them halfway around the world. With concerts on national and international stages and festivals, they delight audiences in over 20 countries worldwide. These include the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Cairo Opera House and the Austrian Styriarte Festival Graz.
